Chainstay cracked or just the design?
Apologies in advance if this is just the bike design and I'm asking an incredibly stupid question!!
I took a fall today going over some ice and my bike just slid right out from under me, luckily I was able to get up and ride off as everything mechanical seems to be working fine after seating the chain back on the front rings.
However upon inspecting for damage I have noticed what appears to be cracks on the chain stay, they are only present on the drive side and not on the non drive side which is what makes me lean towards it not being by design, but I couldn't say if they were there or not before today.

Sorry for the filthy bike, I was riding all day yesterday in the rain and snow and didn't get a chance to clean it yet.
It's a Cannondale Supersix Evo 2015 has anyone else got the same model? and got these marks or not? cheers

The 'crack' is actually the clear vinyl chainstay protector. It's a piece of sticky plastic. It is 'by design', as obviously only the drive side chainstay needs protecting in this way. Move along...0

Yeah - its to protech the chainstay from getting hit by the chain when it jumps up and down going over bumps, especially when slack in certain gears.
Lots of bikes have them but lots dont. If you dont then I recommend putting some helicopter tape there or a neoprene type sleeve which wraps around and fixes with velcro. They can prevent chips that otherwise occur.0 -
