Giant Ridesense Question - No spoke magnet for speed?
I'm a bit confused.
Bought a used Giant Propel that has Ridesense Cadence/Speed sensor.
Cadence and Speed are detected by my Sigma Rox 5.0. However, while the cadence picks up immediately, there is always a lag for speed. So, figured maybe magnet on spokes was not aligned or sometehing. To my surprise, no magnet on spokes. So how the heck has this been detecting speed for the last 12 months????
What am I missing? Is there perhaps no speed magnet for Ridesense? According to manual I found online, there should be. And if there should be, then how is this detecting speed and distance, etc. The distance is fairly accurate...on a 20 mile ride, its sometime about 1 mile short of Strava.
And, if I DO need a magnet, can I put anyone one (I have spares from my cateye setup) of must it be a Giant branded one?
Thank so much. :?

1 mile off 20 miles is a pretty big error. You don't have a powertap do you ?0

It's well-known that Giant magnets use different magnetism to all other brands (and nonbrands) of magnets
A magnet is a magnet - as long as it's strong enough to trigger the sensor, you're good to go.0 -

I'll do that. But - any idea how its recording speed/distance if I don't have a magnet on the spokes right now? Only thing I can think of is maybe it picking up the cadence magnet? no clue.... very odd....0 -

Have you got a magnet on one of the crank arms ??
I got a brand new Giant Defy last August and both the wheel and crank magnets were missing -
You can get replacements from
Any Giant retailer --- don't cost much
In your case it may be picking up a magnet from a crank ??
The ride sense gizmo picks up both wheel and crank0 -
Does your speedo have GPS? That's how my speed is measured, I only use a magnet on the wheel for speed when I'm on the turbo.
And with regards to the Giant magnets, don't worry too much, they are both... giant! The crank arm one is very unsightly and the wheel one is much bigger then it needs to be. I think my turbo wheel has a little Cateye magnet on and my crank arm one is a Bontrager one on a rubber strap, looks much nicer and more discreet.0
