Ive been riding trials and XC on and off as a hobby all my life, but 4/5 years ago I broke my neck (sounds worse than it is) on a downhill bike. I soon after bought a whyte 895 650b, I'm looking for a bike that ticks all the boxes and thought you guys would be the best to ask..

Heres my tick list

20/21 inch frame
Long travel Hardtail
29er
Capable of trials to quiet canal rides
Dropper seat post would be even better
I would also go full suss if it was capable of anything

I have 850 quid to spend...

Any suggestions as to what I should be looking at ?

Edit: whyte 909 looked very appealing to but Pricey!

Any reason why you are wanting to change from the Whyte? Just more travel?

Voodoo Bizango springs to mind. Largest size is 'only' a 20, but unless the reach is an issue you have plenty of seat post adjustment. Comes in under budget so leaves a bit of room to customise ie better pedals etc.

You might struggle to find a decent long travel 29er at your price point.....29ers are usually XC and will have shorter travel (&cheaper) forks. There are some longer travel trail 29ers emerging on the market but they are more expensive.

    120mm isn't long travel

I have the 2015 Pro model and its incredible, very capable on the rougher trails and happily pedals all day if you are doing XC

A second hand Camber comp 29er would be a good bike, within your budget

For you budget I would be looking for a good second-hand Camber, Anthem or Anthem SX or a Boardman FS.

Something like THIS. Get it for a good price and you may have funds left over for an upgrade or two.

So he wants a hardtail and now everyone is plugging FS, how does that work then?
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

The two he's linked to as being interested in, in other threads, have both been FS, so who knows.

In his first post he says "I would also go full suss if it was capable of anything".

The Devil is in the detail.
