Put the pads back in. The bounce from the rubber will help realease the brake.

Please tell me you don't service your own brakes. That's a job that should be left to grown ups.

Are you sure? Because when I push the brake lever, it doesn't spring back to normal

Yep definately, they never work properly without the pads in.

Of course not. Put the pads in and you'll see. The rubber bounces off the wheel rim to help release them properly.

It was because of the extra cable housing I just needed to stretch it out.

Any help on how to cut extra outer cable from your brake lever?

buy decent cable cutters ... I have found cutting with a bit of brake cable in it also stops the cut from compressing the tube AND use a small pointy file to clean up the cut to stop it fraying the cable

You'll need an angle grinder for that.

  • It's stuck, that's all.

Take the wheel out and the pads, loosen the screws you can see slightly and wrap a towel (old, not your mums favourite bath towel) around your seat tube to soak up any over spray and hammer the joints with WD40 or the like.

At the same time keep actuating the brake.

Don't do it in the house either or you be knackered, and high off aerosol fumes.
    Advocate of disc brakes.

    Facebook? No. Just say no.
  • But, that aside, few good suggestions above. In addition the cable angle on entry (and exit to be honest) looks very sharp indeed. Could be problems with the cable moving freely.

    That might be a bonus.

While you are at it, shorten the length of outer cable that exits the top tube and goes to the rear brake caliper actuating arm. I see that you have repositioned your saddle, how is the bike fit going?

    Thanks man great reply :)

It was nothing to do with my bike fit at all. I gathered that flexibility in the my lower back is quite bad, it's very stiff, probably due to my wrong doings when I used to do weightlifting and did incorrect form on deadlifts. I'll probably start doing stretches now to improve my lower back.
