Switching components between 105 and Ultegra?

Hi,

My winter bike is 105 with medium derailleur and 11-32 cassette. My summer bike is ultegra with short derailleur and 11-28 cassette.

This summer I expect to do a ride with particularly steep hills and am thinking of swapping the derailleur and cassette from the winter bike to the summer bike for that ride.

Am I right in thinking that everything will be compatible (e.g. ultegra shifter with 105 derailleur)?

i.e. can I use the 105 cassette and rear derailleur when the rest of the bike is ultegra?

Thank you.

Totally depends on which generation 105 and Ultegra you have. .......

They are both latest generation, both 11 speed.

You might not have to change the derailleur - have a go a trying the 32 with the short Ultegra derailleur and plenty of 'B' screw. I have run a 32 on a short cage 105 and on a short cage DA. Shimano say it shouldn't work but sometimes it does. Have a search in the forums here, it's been discussed before.
