You know they come in different widths? Presume yours are the 45mm version, you can get a 35mm wide version too.0 -

I only found that out once I'd got them and read the info on the card that comes with them. CR only had the ones I bought listed. All I wanted was some basic, easy to fit, and reasobly priced, mudguards to keep the crap off me and my bike during the winter. I looked at quite a few and these seemed like they might do, and they were a good price.
I guess I'm going to have to send them back, but I've already removed them from the board that they were attached to in preparation for fitting them.
I didn't realise that doing something that should be simple, like buying a set of mudgards for a road bile, would be so much hassle. Last time I needed a set of mudguards (for a cheap MTB) all I needed to do was pop along to Halfords and pick up the ones that fitted my wheel size.....0 -
So basically you bought the wrong size of mudguards and they don't fit. Am I missing anything else?0
-
I still don't understand why they won't fit when they are for my wheel size and I have mega tyre clearance on my frame.0

And I was supposed to know this how? Considering that were the ONLY ones available.
Well, a cursory check of the CR website shows this listed:
Features:
Section: 45mm
Rim: 28''
Fastening: Secu Clip
Then, about the 3rd question on the extensive list of Q&As shows:
Q: I bought these mudguards but they are too wide to fit my bike. Do you sell the 35mm width version so that I can swap them?
A: We do not stock the 35mm mudguards.0 -

Err....where? The 3rd questions is:Will these fit my cube peleton race 2014
I can't even see the one you mentioned.
Silly me. Fancy expecting a set of road bike mudguards to fit a road bike. What was I thinking.......0 -
OK, I did state "a cursory check". Having spent another 30 seconds checking, turns out it was the 5th question and not the 3rd
I then invested a further 5 seconds to check the answer to question 9:
Q: Will it fit wheel 700x40?
A: These guards have a width of 45mm, 40mm tyre will be ok to use.
Just accept you bought the wrong product because you did not spend enough time looking at either the product page on CR which has an excellent Q&A section or by using Google which would have thrown up a lot of responses about there being 2 sizes. Move on from it.0 -

Err no it's not. The question you quoted DOES NOT EXIST! :roll:I then invested a further 5 seconds to check the answer to question 9:

Are you for real? Why the hell would I expect to have start Googling stuff when all I wanted was to buy a set of bog standard road bike mudguards??
And I DID look. The info stated that they were for my wheel size. How the f was I supposed to know that road bike guards don't fit all road bikes???

So where is "Q: I bought these mudguards but they are too wide to fit my bike. Do you sell the 35mm width version so that I can swap them"? It's not there. You're obviously looking at something else.
In any case, since, as I've already mention several times, even if it was there why would I have cause to have doubt they would fit when my bike has far more than the usual road bike clearance?0 -
Without knowing what bike you have I can only guess, but I imagine the stated clearance of 32mm is the max tyre size without guards. It'll be significantly reduced with guards. Does the manufacturer state that size? I'd expect the SKS P35 to fit but limit you to maybe 28mm tyres.
Oh, and they're not exactly easy to fit anyway. Brilliant once set up right but it's a bit of a faff.0 -

It's a Mango Point R, and the 32c clearance is without guards - it is 28c with guards (that is what is stated on their website). The tyres I have on atm are 28c. However, that isn't the issue. I didn't even have the wheel on when It tried it out. The guard just won't physically fit between the fork legs far enough up, even with no wheel, because it is too wide.
Thanks, I'll check out the ones you mentioned out. But tbh I'm not sure if I can be bothered now, since something I thought would be simple is turning out to be so complicated. It already took me a while to narrow my choice down to the ones that I did buy, since others had issues or problems that put me off or that I didn't want to live with. Luckily my bike has mounts so I had a greater choice than usual.0 -

...
OK Bungle, I can see how you are having a problem looking at the website so here is some help. I wrote that I took my simple cut and paste from Q5. The 5th question in the list is:
35mm version?
Under that headline question is this further query:
Q: I bought these mudguards but they are too wide to fit my bike. Do you sell the 35mm width version so that I can swap them?
A: We do not stock the 35mm mudguards.
So, yes I am for real, as is the text I quoted. The problem is that you seem to have started with the assumption that all road bikes are equal and then went on to make an assumption that all tyres and wheels are equal too...and that therefore all mudguards would also be the same. In reality, there is a big difference in the clearance of some bikes and a huge variance (relatively) in tyres. Hence, mudguards will come in a variety of sizes and models, some models work, some sizes work but not all sizes and all models work for all bike/tyre combos.
btw, Q9 is relevant because it clearly shows that the mudguard has a width of 45mm. If I was looking for a mudguard and read that I would have checked my forks to see if a 45mm mudguard would fit.0 -
So. Not only do you expect me to go on some sort of quest through Google every time I make a purchase, you also expect me to trawl through every single question that's been asked about the product that I'm considering, no matter how little relevance it appears to have to me. I see.
And why wouldn't I have assumed they would fit when the available room is unusually large for a road bike. How many road bikes offer more space?0 -
OOOH, can't resist.
OP you bought something without checking that it would fit? So being that you state that the clearance on your forks is 32mm, i'm going to guess that you clearly have some knowledge in what to look for. The fact that you know there is a "clearance" shows that you are aware of a reason for this being a factor in cycling.
No point getting arsey with other who are pointing out that with a small bit of effort, you could have saved yourself this hassle.
Why not nip down to the LBS and try them in there.0 -
I've packed them up and initiated the returns procedure. I don't know if I can be bothered with it anymore. What I thought would be simple has turned out to be too much of a minefield. And looking at the rear wheel of my bike there doesn't seem to be much space at the top, so I've no idea if any will fit.....even though the bike website indicated that they should.0
-
Bungle by name....
Just take the bike to the LBS and ask them to fit some mudguards for you. Really - buying the right mudguard size is the easy part of fitting mudguards....0 -
I haven't got a LBS....unless you count Halfords.....they all closed down.0
-
LOL you bought mudguards that wrong size, and blaming everything else.
You have several things to pay attention to when buying mudguards
1) What is the clearence between the dual pivot brakes and tyre?
2) Do you have 47mm drop or 57mm deep drop brakes
3) Do you have disc brakes, if so does the caliper front, rear, or both, get in the way of the rods
4) Does your bike have clearence between tyre and frame/fork
5) What size wheel does you bike have
6) Does your bike have mountings for the mudguards? Fork, brake bridge, and bottom bracket bridge, and near drop out/wheel nut.
7) What width are your tyres, what range size do you use.Say... That's a nice bike..

"and it won't fit between the fork legs"
A simple glance between tyre and fork area would have shown you that before buying
a) The bike
b) The mudguards
I work in a bike shop, a few road bikes do have incredibly tight clearence between tyre and fork. So it's pretty obvious it won't fit.
You will be able to use raceblades, possibly crud road racer. But the latter goes through the fork & near seat tube, if you can get them to fit it'll offer better protection than race blades.
Either way clip on mudguards are crap.
I'd buy another bike, generally road bikes aren't really suited for full length guards. You can buy road bikes where mudguards will fit, but not always. For example I've seen some where gap between tyre and seat tube is small, so no way the guard all the way to the BB will work.
You want something like a "audax" bike or "fast tourer"
ie Ribble Audax.
You could buy a bike with mudguards already fitted, that way you know guards will fit, and the bike is designed from the start guards are compatible.Say... That's a nice bike..

email mango ask them what mudguards will fit?
Looking at that bike, can't see why full length guards wouldn't fit, it does appear to have deep drop brakes, plenty of space between tyre and seat tube, can't see gap between fork and tyre though. but only way would be seeing for myself, need to see gap betwen tyre and fork, gap on rear wheel/frame, if deep drop should be able to put your finger in the gap, needs to have bolt into the BB shell etc.
But if you bought the wide SKS mudguards, then of course it won't fit, you want the narrower ones. That should feed through ok. Just change it with the narrower ones.
CRC are good on returns.Say... That's a nice bike..

These wouldn't have helped if the issue was that the mudguards were too wide to fit between the fork legs.FFS! Harden up and grow a pair0 -
