On paper the Polygon looks quite a bit better - stiffer fork, improved shock, higher end drivetrain, better wheels. I've not heard of them before, but the geometry looks up to date for a bike of its type. As long as the rear suspension system works well (and lasts) it looks a great buy.
  • Thanks for your reply. They are an online retailer with the frames made in Indonesia. There are a few independent bike mag reviews of previous models which are positive. I also just noticed the Anthem 3 is more of a similar price than the stance. Would the Anthem and Polygon be on similar terms on the specs? :

    Anthem 3
Frame ALUXX SL-grade aluminium, Advanced Forged composite upper rocker, 110mm Maestro suspension
Fork RockShox 30 Gold RL Solo Air, OverDrive, 120mm travel
Shock RockShox Deluxe RT, Trunnion mount
    Handlebar Giant Connect Trail, 31.8mm
    Stem Giant Connect
    Seatpost Giant Connect, 30.9mm
    Saddle Giant Contact Neutral
    Pedals N/A
    Shifters Shimano Deore
    Front Derailleur Shimano Deore
    Rear Derailleur Shimano Deore
    Brakes Shimano M365, hydraulic disc, [F] 180mm [R] 160mm
    Brake Levers Shimano M365 hydraulic
    Cassette Shimano HG50 11-36T, 10-speed
    Chain KMC X10
    Crankset Shimano M627, 22-36T
    Bottom Bracket Shimano, Press fit
    Rims Giant XC-3
    Hubs Giant Sport Tracker Disc, [F] QR 28h, [R] Boost 148x12mm 32h
    Spokes Stainless steel, 14g

Depends on the riding really, the Anthem is a great XC bike and can be very capable on the rougher stuff but the 30mm fork will never be quite as Recon 32mm on that Polygon.

The rear suspension on the Polygon looks perfectly viable as long as the shock tune works and gives a decent pedal platform.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Thanks supersonic, oxoman and The Rookie for the advice.
Once I get up and riding will hopefully contribute a bit more rather than making more "which bike" threads!

Polygon make some pretty decent bikes. They're quite popular in South Africa and Australia.
The Polygon Collussus gets really good reviews.
  • That bike aint that cheap, you could get a better spec'd trekking and tough trails.

Prices are in Australian dollars. Seems like decent value to me.

£1240 at current exchange rates, and bikes generally in Oz are pricier than the UK.
