As the topic says, managed to nurse it home tonight with a bust spoke on the original Maddux rear. I'm driving for the rest of the week for work reasons and will have a pop at repairing the missing spoke (and fishing the nipple out) over the weekend.

But t'better half agreed the purchase of new wheel (or wheelset). So what should I buy?

Do about 60 to 100 miles a week commute and the odd weekend ride
Weight 103 kg
Can put quite a bit of power down (340w ftp on a test indoors - knacked after mind) and do like a bit of a sprint at times
Need reliability - the bikes a workhorse first and foremost, not bothered about saving a few grams

Budget? £200 for a rear, £300 for a set and need it asap.

  • I had exactly the same happen to me yesterday, on my CAADX 105 with my original Maddux rear wheel! :( I'm hoping to get away with just a new spoke, but HUNT 4Season Aero V2's come in at £339, and have a 115kg rider weight limit, but it looks like you might have to wait for them.
