Hi please excuse the eternal which bike thread , I've currently only spent sub £500 on my previous bikes but I'm taking the plunge on spending up to £1500 on my next bike which will be used for light trails , I like to support my lbs and have narrowed it down to the following 2 bikes which my lbs can get hold of , I know the procaliber is carbon but surprisingly the superfly is lighter, that aside which is the better specced?

  • I would probably lean towards the Superfly 7, but only because it has Fox forks - then again, I'm a bit, um, snobby(?) when it comes to my forks... Actually, comparing the spec. of the two bikes, the Superfly also weighs a bit less than the Procaliber, despite being made from Aluminium - so if it was my money, I'd PROBABLY buy the Superfly. Then again, I do like my carbon-fibre, so I'm kind of having second thoughts on your behalf - nope, I'm not - if it were me, I would buy the Superfly...
  • Do you think it's worth sacrificing the better components for the carbon frame? After discounts from the lbs the procaliber would work out £210 more.
  • In MTB opinion no, get the Superfly.

Whether the carbon frame is worth it depends on a lot of things, will you keep it standard, how long will you have it etc. If you'll keep it standard then I'd probably stick with the alloy frame.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

define light trails - both those bikes are XC race bikes really. what did you have before and where do you actually ride. For the light trails around my area I wouldn't bother with those two.
  • It will be kept standard until something needs replacing , as I'm just starting I'll be going around the beginers trails so nothing technical at all , for that price point what else would people recommend?

something a bit more relaxed geo wise - it makes a difference to beginners TBH.

also do consider an FS bike, you can get a pretty good deal on for for £1500. don't think because you are a beginner you should get a hardtail. I'd also look beyond your LBS, you want the best bike you can afford
  • Thanks for your reply , I've been looking at the 2017 orange clockwork

How does that look for the money?
