I've tried to replace the pads on my BR-RS805 road disc brakes, fronts have been fine, but the small screw that holds the pads in (named the pad axle) I've manged to round the head and it won't come out..

Presume I can just drill it out carefully?

Did you remove the little clip on the back that holds the pin in first? If not, do that.
Then you may be able to wind it out using the little protruding bit that the clip fits on. a pair of small nose pliers may do it.

  • another angle if the pliers on the ends does not work could be a pair of thin nosed pliers on the centre part of the pin ( the bit between the pads ) to grab & twist to try & crack the pin loose that way. ( probably best to remove the wheel 1st though for more room to work incase its not already removed )
  • There's a flat head on the other side isn't there? So you could grab the torx bit with some pliers and undo from the other side?
  • if its anything like the pin on my 785's then i dont think there is.

just the hex head & a locking clip.

Mine has a slot head and locking clip, no hex head. But I assume either style will provide the same problem if the head has been mullered.

Drilling out the bolt head would probably take enough tension off the bolt to turn it with pliers or if you have a torx bit of the proper size you can tap it in the stripped head and often this will give enough grip to turn the bolt.

    indeed it would.

its times like this that make the simple metal split pin option on lesser spec brake options a better idea - must have gone for a solid pin for a reason but it comes with its own problems.
  • Mine had the slotted head, for a flat-head screw driver ... put was easily knackered. Tried a few things, including pliers with no luck. Had to resort to using a very sharp chisel and few gentle taps to get it to bit into the screwhead a little to get some purchase. Got it undo eventually and used a split pin as a temporary replacement, until I got an allen head replacement.
