Hi
I have just bought a felt z5 from Wiggle ,all ok apart from one thing.
When I change from small to big front ring the chain catches on the front mech slightly before moving onto the big ring.
It seems to trap between the rings and mech while moving onto the big ring.
I have adjusted the inner limiter screw so the chain is not rubbing on the mech when in the little front big back combination.
Any ideas what may be causing the problem ?
Also to adjust the limit screws what is the correct way to turn the screws to move the mech, I do this with luck rather than good judgment.
regards

Might be the derailleur is fractionally too low and needs raising slightly. Try loosening the clamping bolt on the FD and raise it by a couple of mm then re-tighten the clamp bolt making sure the derailleur cage is still parallel to the chain line and chain rings.

For the limit screw adjustment. Looking from above, the screw nearest the frame adjusts the inner limit for the small chain ring. The screw furthest from the frame adjusts the outer limit for the large chain ring.

For either screw - turning it clockwise moves the cage out and away from the frame. Anticlockwise moves the cage in and towards the frame

Great stuff , always struggled with the limit screw thing , same as horizontal and vertical , !!
A bit apprehensive about moving the height of the mech , especially on a new bike and never done this before , will need ti grow some b***s and give it a go .
    thanks

  • When in the the inner ring your FD should appear about 2mm above the big chainring (when viewed from the side), as arlowood mentioned, it sounds liek your FD is perhaps too low.

To adjust the limit screws (iner) un-clmap the cable, and stick the chain in the bigeest sprocket at the back, adjust the limit screws so that it no longer rubs the - but only just - reattach the cable and set the outer limit screw with the chain in the big ring and smallest sprocket at the back.
