Cleaning 5:10s...

Hi All,
Happy New Year and all that.
After some advice from those in the know. I did a night ride a little while back and my 5:10s are still covered in mud. everything else got cleaned up easily enough, but not sure the best way to get the shoes back to the original black!
Planning on knocking off as much of the crud as I can, then thought a quick spin in the washing machine? I know they'll take an age to dry, especially at this time of the year but would this work to get them back to pretty clean, or do I need to break out a bucket of soapy water and a toothbrush?
Any advice appreciated!

Scrape off the dried mud, put in a laundry bag, rinse cycle and then a spin to get most the water out, then dry.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I would JBA and Dad but they are CAKED!
Thanks Rook, no powder to help with the cleaning? Obviously don't want sparkling but will just water do the trick?Bossnut - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13069531

Don't bother with powder, mud comes out with just water.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Or an old washing up brush, hot water and the kitchen sink. Radiator for a day to dry out - job's a carrot.0

The dry mud will flake off as you ride.“Life has been unfaithful

Wait for them to dry and hit off the lose mud. Use a nail brush if you're really fussy.
Getting them spotless is a waste of time, they'll only be muddy again within 5 minutes of riding.
Cleaning them too much shortens their life, it rots the lining and stitching.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Got them all clean(ish!) yesterday, brush and elbow grease, pretty much all of it came off with just a brush over.Bossnut - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=13069531
