Hi
I'm stumped on what hardtail to buy next with a max budget of £800. I've just sold my Cube Analog 29er which was a lovely bike but the 29" wheels just weren't for me. I'm definitely looking at 27.5" going forward. Any suggestions, good deals out there? I'm tempted by the Whyte 801 after a recommendation from a good friend. I'll be using it for general cross country and the occasional trail in the Spring/Summer.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Have a look at the Rockrider 900 from Decathlon, well specced, good quality frame and witching budget.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I also had a Cube HT but sold it cus it just felt too harsh and after 2 hours in the saddle I was hurting all over. Whyte 801 is decent, really like the slack geometry. Try it out or book a demo if you can. There are other better spec bikes for the money of course...you can even pick up a full sus Boardman Team FS if you join British Cycling you get a discount at Halfords. Best thing to do is ride a few different bikes to get an idea what works for you.0 -

Pretty poor spec for the money isn't it....like really bad.
Seen better parts on a £430 bike.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Rutland are doing the 2016 Giant Talon 0for £769.
Much better spec than the Whyte although only 100mm travel.“Life has been unfaithful
And it all promised so so much”
Giant Trance 2 27.5 2016 ¦ Sonder Broken Road 2021¦ Giant Revolt Advanced 2 2019 ¦ Giant Toughtroad SLR 1 2019 ¦ Giant Anthem 3 2015 ¦ Specialized Myka Comp FSR 20090 -

I did have the Rockrider in mind but wasn't sure if it was a bit too cross-country. I would like something that I can throw around on the occasional trail. Might go and have a look at one anyway. Thanks for the replies so far as well guys. I've had a look at the Whyte 801 but I think better spec can be had for the money. Feel like I'm back to the drawing board.0 -
Has anyone had any experience with the Giant Talon 0 2016 model? On spec alone it looks superb. Not sure about the colour scheme however.0

This is the UK, whatever colour it starts as it will end up a beigey brown! Plus you can't see it when your riding it!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

That's very true ; )
Within my budget all online advice still seems to point towards the Bizango. I am fairly interested but I'd much prefer 27.5 over a 29er. Are there any bikes within this price range that compete against the Bizango in terms of spec/performance?0 -
The Trott MTB1 is brilliant value, Raidon air fork and 1x11 drivetrain, it's nominally a women's MTB, but the frame is pretty much identical to the Carrera's, if you can see past that it's brilliant value, and you can spend some of the £100 saving on fork stickers and grips so it looks less women's!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
