Email spam with my email address?

How's this work then?
Have now had a few spam emails, text would suggest of USAnian origin, offering work from home and no, I did not click on the embedded link to discover more.
Twist this time is the sender email address shows as my own, the same as the recipient address.
Assume this is some techy spammer trick but anyone know how it's done?

It's very easy to spoof the email headers, including the sender address, though the emails won't pass all the integrity checks (particularly SPF records) and are more likely to be caught by the spam filters.
