Thanks.

Having had a quick look at some of the specialist cycle insurance companies. Their prices for a year are a third again over our house hold insurance, so I am thinking it might be better just to find a household insurer who has no limit on bikes even though our insurance has 6 months to run.
    Again anyone got any recommendations.
    Thanks.
  • We're covered with AXA via the meerkat site and I asked about £5K cover for a bike, they came back with a policy that covers up to £15K single item limit so we went with that. I'll see if I can find the name of the policy and post it up, it might be useful.
  • Not used them myself but a few people I know are with Yellow Jersey Cycling Insurance and are happy with the cover they get.

There are quite a few threads on here about insurance - it'll be worth a search. A good one is pedalcover.co.uk. It's house insurance underwritten by AXA. They don't really have a max bike value - more a total value for contents at home and away from home.

I use Bikmo, I've not had to claim yet but my dealings with them so far have been pleasing. The great things about specialist cover is the extra benefits you get as part of the cover, breakdown cover, bike hire while your claim is processed, race cover etc... The Bikmo team are also cyclists (one of the main guys is in Chester Road Club) which you would hope means they are sympathetic in the event of a claim.
  • I always recommend M&S home platinum cover..or whatever they call their top cover now...I have a bike worth 4000, looked all over the specialist sites..all wanted at least 30 a month...I rang M&S, added no limit cover to my bike anywhere, for an extra £8 a month on top of usual payment..no one else came close.

I have my bianchi Oltre XR1, Power Meter and Wheels £4000 and my Cervelo S2 with Power meter insured with Wiggle and didnt have any issues.

Some insurer wouldnt insure me as I keep my bikes in an asgard storage box with anchor gold level locks but apparently thats not as safe as a wooden shed and pure gym locker....

Wiggle I would get a quote

I went with Santander home insurance 5 grands worth of bike cover I.e.most expensive bike is worth up to 5 grand and it covers all bikes worth less than that amount.
  • Does anyone have any experience with British Cycling insurance? Wanna insure my £800 Defy. I already have the Ride membership. I don't have home insurance.
  • My bikes are done under John Lewis contents insurance. Remember it being a good deal when I bought it - can't remember exact details but up to £5000 worth of bikes insured I think.

I tried John Lewis when I was looking, they have 2 types of insurance. One only covers bikes up to £2,500 I think so you have to go with their other one if your bikes are worth over that. Their quote was over 600 quid for house and bikes.
More than will cover bikes up to £1500 ( My original insurer ) and that was £200 plus for a 4 bed detached.
