Used wheels for turbo trainer?

javidrjavidr Posts: 133
Hi

I had a puncture today and i am pretty sure that this is caused because the tyre was worn after some usage in the turbo trainer

What would you recommend to do? Buy just a new tyre, or would be a good option to buy an used and cheap wheel just for the trainer?

Thanks

Have a look in the classified adds, or ebay

You get punctures with brand new tyres too.

How much wear had the turbo caused?

    What made the puncture?

Planet X have a turbo wheel for £42, so for a turbo set set up of tyre, cassette and wheel the cost would be £80 ish or less depending on cassette. Cheaper options may be available on flea bay.
  • If you get on with your LBS you could ask them if they're throwing any old wheels away. Mine gave me a wheel with dent on the braking service, not a problem on a turbo but couldn't be ridden on road anymore so they were going to chuck it.

Just use your normal wheel and tyre, all that friction will toughen the tyre up.
