Buying a Emonda ALR frame set 56cm.
Reach wise it's fine, there is just quite alot of seat post showing due to the 51.3cm seat tube length.

Any other bigger chaps (6ft plus) riding a 56cm H2 trek road bike?

Not riding one but I'm 182cm and I've recently tested an Emonda and the 58 frame was the one I preferred. Have you had chance to try one before you buy it?
  • I ride a 56 Madone Pro Fit would that be the H1 in the newer flavour, seems like it? I would say you are on the cusp/just over the odds for a 58 size frame, are you more legs than torso or the other way round? I am 183cm.

5'11" on 56 cm H2 also, fits lovely. The Domane I occasionally ride is 58cm and is too big.

Size 60 a good fit for me at 6'4". Sounds like 58 may be the one for you but depends on your body shape as you're probably on the threshold between sizes.

Depends how you ride. Nothing wrong with a lot of post showing, but a 560 ETT is on the short side for our height. WHat stem length will you use?

I'd defo be going for the 58.
A 56 top tube is doable on the track for a very aggressive position for me.

I'll be riding 120mm stem. With about 15mm spacers. It will be a race bike. My Scott addict is 56cm with 565mm eff TT and 110mm stem. So I can make the Trek fit. It'll definitely be manoeuvrable!

Is your height mainly in your body? I have long legs/arms and I definitely couldn't get in a racey position of the 56.

It sounds like you've made your mind up regardless of the advice but if you can I'd definitely try it first.

I'm 6'1" (well, perhaps a little more now my back's been re-engineered, and perhaps I was a little shorter before). Anyway, my main bikes are:

    Enigma Excel 570ETT, 110mm stem, 80mm reach bars, reach 392, stack 582
Cervelo R5Ca 586ETT (but weird geometry), 120mm stem, 79mm reach bars, reach 387, stack 580
    (previous R5VWD 564ETT, 120mm stem, 80mm reach bars, reach 387, stack 580)
    Cervelo S5 581ETT, 110mm (-17) stem, 89mm reach bars, reach 401, stack 588

I think the S5 is frankly too big for me, really - I run the saddle a long way forward (knee 25mm ahead of pedal spindle) for an aero position. I've done long rides (>160km) on all of them, but the S5 is not really comfortable at that distance.

I'm a bit drunk so forgive if this is stupid but if the reach is fine and the saddle in in the correct position, why on earth are you worried about how much post is showing?
