Compatible Tiagra 4600 Options?

this'll probably be quite an easy one for someone to answer...

One of my steeds has Tiagra 4600 chain and cassette (and FD).

I'd like to be able to give her a new chain and cassette but I am struggling to find a 12-30t or 11-28t cassette, I notice that the 4700 is an HG500 casette, so what would be compatible with the 4600?

Maybe still HG500 or would it be HG50?

Also, will any 10sp chain be okay?

Thanks :)

Essentially any 10-speed cassette will be fine (4700, 5700, etc). For some reason Shimano decided to discontinue the 12-30 cassette which was a real shame as it provided that extra bale-out gear for those that struggle on steep gradients. If you still want a large bottom sprocket check out the 11-32 SLX HG81-10 cassettes normally sold for MTB use.

They will also work but you need to check that you have a medium cage rear derailleur to accomodate the 32 tooth sprocket.

Any 10-speed chain will also be fine - I recommend a KMC one with the quick link

Ah, that makes sense then why I can find other sizes. If I'm honest I only used to use the 32 when I had a 36 small ring (it's a cross bike) I've now switched that for a 34 so a 12-28 would probably suffice. I have 2 rd one is long and one is medium.

    Thanks for your reply!

I use the KMC X10-73 10 Speed Chain and a 4700 12-28 cassette with my Tiagra set up - 4600 shifters, F+R derailleurs and 4700 crankset. No issues at all
