Indoor trainer specific tyre size

Hi

I recently bought a 2016 Kona Jake The Snake CR which I am very happy with but as a fair weather rider I don't want to take its matt black carbon loveliness out in the crap weather so I bought a kickr snap last week.

The bike is a cyclocross bike which came with 700x33 knobblies but as I use it on road I fitted some 700x32 treaded road tyres.

Now I want to get some trainer specific tyres to use on the kickr but they all seem to be 700x23 which seems like quite a size difference! My question is will that size fit my wheels?

Thanks

  • Have a look here http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#width.

I'd guess your rim width is 15 or 17mm, in which case the 15 is fine, and the 17 will also be fine as the risk of pinch flats or rim damage on a turbo is nil :D

There's a certain irony in not wanting to get a cyclocross bike dirty....

Haha yeah I know but it isn't a cyclo cross bike to me I use it as a road bike it may seem crazy but the only reason I didn't buy a "proper" racer is because my bike not only looks cool but it's called jake the snake! Jake the snake! Come on I had to have it!

your cx bike would look a damn site cooler if it was covered in mud and looked like you were badass .... but 32c isn't hard to find, hell even amazon sell them

It's carbon and Matt black it looks more badass clean! CX is a load of nonsense anyway I've got a mountain bike for that! Haha

I am surprised by that Amazon link perhaps only looking on bike shops was a mistake literally all the tyres they has were 23 on all the shops I looked at! Even a quick Google search didn't present me with that gem!
