Tacx/any turbo on carpet

As above, any tips of using a trainer on carpet because my Tacx Vortex is not stable. There's a fair bit of side to side movement and rocking when pedalling and I'm only on approx 1cm carpet. Tried with an without a training mat.
Only thing I can thing of doing is placing some solid wood between the trainer and carpet to see if that helps otherwise I may need to use another room

Mine is set up in the man cave on carpet and mat and is OK for stability, possibly your pedalling technique or saddle height causing your body to roll a bit and create the side to side movement. I have found that when on the turbo it does help to focus on your pedalling action to get the best out of them.0

You will need a mat down to collect sweat - and if you're in a house it will be even warmer than my garage - i sweat buckets in there.0

Stupid question time but are you happy the bike is fixed properly to the trainer.0

You could always build a platform out of plywood to sit the turbo on. I built one for kind of the opposite reason. It was in an upstairs bedroom with wooden floors and so I built a platform with carpet on the top and a couple of layers of the dense foam that you lay under wooden floors underneath. It helped reduce the deep rumbling noise you get.
It shouldn't rock that much on carpet unless you've got really thick shagpile that tickles your ankles as you walk (in which case your dungeon is seriously weird/ sleazy).0 -

^^ this is my plan. In a nutshell - I won't be touched the saddle height or way i pedal as it's setup very well. This is only happening due to the give in the carpet. The bike rocks slightly even when not pedalling.
I will try a platform and go from there. Really don't want to move it out of my man cave!0 -
bit obvious, but is the floor level in that spot? I need to 'chock' one of the legs of mine depending on position in room? All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....0

Mines on carpet and there's no movement - all the "feet" in place --and secure under the trainer?Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
