I have at 2016 tarmac and I'm interested in swapping my 24mm sworks turbo tires for 28mm tires. I'm primarily interested for comfort, aside from all the other benefits.I am considering the continental grand prix 4000 s ii tire in 28s. On bike rolling resistance they measure the tire at 31mm. I am wondering if anyone has 28s on their tarmac and can offer confirmation they fit and any other direct experience they have.

Can you get a 4mm Allen key between your current tyre and brake caliper? If you can't, you haven't got enough room.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I suspect it will be tight as GP4000 come up bigger than most other tyres. I run 25mm on my tarmac I occasionally get stones stuck between the tyre and the caliper (Dura Ace/Ultegra).

You don't say whether the bike is disc or caliper, as you may have slightly more clearance on a disc model (as there will be no caliper interference), but you may still have issues with seat tube clearance.
  • It's a rim brake. It looks like I have about a .25 inches clearance front and rear. Less of an issue with the caliper more so with the frame. About .25 inches to the fork and same for the rear post. I have heard that the continentals run large and that the 28mm can end up at 31mm on the rim.
  • Ive read the same test. It seems that the tyres were mounted on a 17c rim so would come up larger than a narrower rim.
I contacted specialized and they confirmed that a 28mm tyre would fit fine on a narrow rim.
I prefer a wider rim so would look to go for a 25mm Gp4000s on a 17c rim. I think this would come up about 27-28mm
