Fulcrum Racing Quattro Front Bearings

This is probably a stupid question:
Can anyone point me in the direction of a video or blown up diagram of how the front hub works - I'd be very grateful!

I'm trying to replace the bearings but the diagram on Fulcrums website is wrong, something is preventing removing the end caps and I don't just want to pull and see what happens/cause damage?

Thanks!

Do you turn the endcaps in the correct direction?

Is there not a small circlip around the little stub where the skewer goes through?

    Ah, I haven't noticed one.

Will double check - thank you!

Sorry then, I thought they were the same as the campags which have one. They are not like normal circlips which normally are a flat section with little holes at each end to put circlip pliers in. These are round section (just a springy wire really) and are quite well hidden at the stub end just behind where it goes from really narrow to a bit wider, I had to use a magnifying glass to spot the ends of the wire and then use two watchmakers screwdrivers to prise it out. It is very easy to overlook, and even harder to see if it is not there on your wheels :)

Thank you for your help guys!

I stumbled across the solution and it just took 12 minutes to change the bearings. So what you do is take a 16mm cone spanner and pull the things off (with a bit of force). They're held in place by a little rubber gromit. Quick tap with a hammer and the bearings were out, new ones pressed in with a BB press and reassembled.

One of the bearings was shot as the seal had clearly failed.

    Thanks again!

I thought Fulcrum Racing Quattro are cup and cone? With loose ball bearings?

  • If the fives are cartridge then I'd expect a higher spec wheel to have cartridge too.

Cup & cone are so 80's it's untrue!

All Shimano wheels - right up to DA - are cup and cone. I found this: http://www.fulcrumwheels.com/en/wheels/ ... quattro-lg

Btw, I'm not trying to point score here. I'm due to service my Quattros for the first time and - due to them having adjustable hubs - I'm expecting to be presented with ball bearings and a cone. Otherwise, I'll need to buy a press (don't want to use my homemade one on anything more valuable than £100/wheelset!)

Nope, these hubs have ordinary cartridge bearings.
The "adjustment" is ment to locate all parts on the axle without lateral play.
Cartridge bearings (deep groove bearings) cannot be adjusted , you don't want preload on hub bearings anyway.
Play in bearing> EOL> new ones.
And NO, you don't need expensive tools, presses or whatever.
Whack them out with a screwdriver and whack them in with a matching socket.

Campagnolo thinks the other way round.
