Hello,

Just bought Tacx Flux for £537.40 and Smart Trainer Upgrade for £119.20. Saving for about £193.

I then price matched with Evans Cycles to get a direct UK delivery and easier follow up service. :D

  • How did you get Wvans to price match? When I tried with athlete shop I was told they don't match to that site?
    Cheers
  • Rudi,

I just called them this morning on +44 (0) 1293 574 900 and they priced matched there and then. They are open up to 17.00 UK time today.

How well does this work with the Tacx app?

It is just reading the reviews about this app doesnt appear too good and people seem to talk about many issues connecting to the app. However it is hard to work out if this is all the trainers or just the lower end trainers.

I was looking at this as well, however I ruled it out on price. However at the price you have just paid, its deffo a bargain.

What does the upgrade kit do?

As far as I can see the trainer will connect via an ANT+ dongle anyway with the upgrade?

You don't need the smart upgrade for the flux.

  • Yes I know I could have nought other devices to connect to Flux. I have a few of the Tacx videos which I think needs the upgrade and thought the Tacx ANT/dongle etc would be simple to set up with another Tacx product etc. I am a current user of their software and I know it is a little "lumpy" at times :-).

Jeepers, thats just too good to say no to.
Just rung and Evans price matched for me as well....now ordered!
I'll finally be able to use bluetooth!!

One Bkool Pro now available if anyone is interested :)
  • Just to let you know that Evans had this as "available" on 28/11/16 but this will now be sent on 10/12/16 - they said there has been a delay with supplier. Maybe "lumpy" software again. Smart Upgrade software has turned up though, in a very smooth box but I assume there will be some lumps on the inside :-).

Cancelled my preorder, by the time it arrives it'll be outdoor weather again!

Shane Miller has reviewed two on youtube and both have broken within hours :/
  • Due to arrive tomorrow. Will try to report early view in next few days.
  • Hello,

First impression is good in terms of overall quality but trying to get a Shimano 5700 10 speed cassette onto the device is very tricky. I have needed to file the inside of each cassette ring grooves to enable each ring to go onto the freehub. Even then they are very hard to fit. Now thinking of just using SRAM cassette as I think this fits on more easily.

    Any other ideas most welcome?

  • I got Evans to match on an Elite Drivo from Athlete shop. It was refused on line but a phone call and no problem. Saved over £200.
  • Got everything working in a fashion. Bluetooth link via phone was a bit flaky although ANT+ seems to work fine.

Started quick workout and heard clunking noise whilst pedalling. When I stopped pedalling there was clear clunking noise from unit. Although nothing was moving on the bike I tried this again with another bike with same result.

Now taking it back to Evans for exchange unit. I also think the one they sent me was a demo/opened unit as 1) it did not look 100% brand new - e.g. some odd marks on the outside and also on the metal plates on the "legs" and 2) they are now saying available units from 6th Jan 2017.

Other than the clunking the actual feel of the unit was good.

    That doesn't bode well.

Can see that is a fairly serious design fault that won't be easy to fix. Can see this product getting knocked on the head and coming back rebranded.

No which is unfortunate for Tacx and end users alike. I held off buying a smart trainer this year to see what came out of inter/euro bike and the hot prospect was indeed the Flux.

Even though I have a Neo which is just superb, I'd still buy a Flux if I was in the market and knew the initial teething problems were fixed. It's "only" a belt jumping so shouldn't be a hard fix, if a chain was jumping you'd check trim and/or re-index your derailleur.

They probably won't have to re-engineer the trainer, likely just a single simple part

Anyone have more thoughts on these after owning for a few weeks?

Mine was returned yesterday. Belt started slipping and made a horrible grinding noise just after an hour of use. Seems to be a common problem with them.
