Can I damage all seat post by over tightening light?

Hopefully this is a daft question, but:
- I've got a cateye light with a plastic strap.
- I've fitted this to the aluminium seat post of my bike.
- because of the slightly odd design, I've had to tighten the screw on the strap tighter than I usually would, to get the light to stay put.
There's not a risk of damaging the seat post by tightening the strap like this? I'm guessing the strap would break first...
