Which Fixie Wheelset?

I'm looking for a new set of wheels for my commuter fixie.

My budget is up to £200 or so, as such I'm not expecting mega light wheels. The bike is used for a bit of commuting and starting to get out for some longer rides on it as well.
The wheels must have a brake track.

I've been looking at some used Mavic Ellipse wheels or possibly trying to build up my own with something along the lines of Miche hubs, Sapim spokes and Open Pro rims.

Any other suggestions?

you could buy Mishe Pistard wheels. Cheap and robust.

Building your own is fine. OP rims would fine for fixed gear builds. But so does the archetype. Better rim as well.

Rule out the pistard wheels mentioned above as they don't have a brake track. Take a look at Dolan navigator or the gipiemme stuff on the planet x website.

    Thanks for that.

The Dolan wheels look pretty good, especially with the extra 10% off for Black Friday.
The Planet X ones look to be pretty heavy, not far off a pound heavier than the Dolans!

I'm not expecting a light set as such but if I can get something like the Dolan's within budget with a decent weight saving, I'd imagine it'll be worthwhile.

The v-sprint wheels have a good rep on LFGSS (and there is a code somewhere there to get an extra tenner off I think)

Thanks for that, they look like pretty good wheels according to the reviews on LFGSS.
I think I'll be going for a set of those :D

Miche do the X-press wheelset as well. Forgot to mention that. It has a brake track.

Another rim you could pick for your budget would be the Kinlin XR200. They are cheap at £35 each and 385g. Lace to a set of miche hubs and you will have a light wheelset for your budget.

Most track hubs are inherently heavy (heavy is relative, obviously) - solid threaded axles and high flanges will not give you a light build, unfortunately. There are light track hubs out there, but not cheap..
