Frame sizing

In the market for a mew frame for the new year but its been so long since I had a new frame, can't remember the exact sizing. Anyone know a basic starting point for an off the peg frame. I'm 5'10" which should suggest a 55-56cm frame but then you have semi and full compact frames so how does this impact on sizing.

    Start by establishing the geometry of the frame you've already got - and then find something similar in terms of top tube length and/or headtube length.

    You have to go by the geometry and manufacturers sizing charts. 56cm frames vary a fair bit between manufacturers.
