Can a drive train be TOO clean?
sitting here waiting for the mail man to deliver a new bottom bracket with the drive train completely stripped, all I can do is wait and clean components. (So the cassette is silver? Good to know!) Cleaning components off the bike makes it so much more thorough. Then it occurs to me after 6 applications of de-greaser:- am I creating a corrosion problem? If I strip all of the oil off the metal, will I regret it? is the oil a preservative? I could brush it over with light oil or diesel.

Just lube the chain and run it through all the gears before putting it away, yes the chain and cassette are made of steel and will rust without some protection, likewise cheaper chainrings.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Yes, the parts are steel, but not plain steel - they will be electroplated or have some other type of surface treatment. So they will not turn to orange dust overnight.0
