Hello everyone!!!

I was planning to buy new bike. My old one is a vintage road bike very cool but I would like to feel safer on the bike with better equipment: brakes, gears …

I want a commuter bike no very expensive and I was chequing different road bike under &300 but I decided that the kind of bike that I need is a Cyclocross…
-Similar to road bike = fast bike.
-With disk brakes.
-Tyres bigger than 700x25c but not too big (maximum 30 or 32).
-Even if is possible to use some time in off road it will be perfect.

I would like to spend no more than 400& or 450, the good points the black Friday is coming maybe it will be possible to find some bargain

I´m think in those bikes at the moment:

http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/h ... -comp-bike

I know the last one is not Cyclocross but is not heavy similar a road bike with not very big tyres.

Do you recommend me any of those?
Could you recommend me any others bikes?

Thanks a lot.

or this if you like disc brake & steel frames

most 631 frames are 500 quid alone
  • The last one look very nice!!!!
But It is too much money for me...
Maybe I have to invest more money.

Really I dont know if the different between both bikes is worthy for me.

    Anyway thanks a lot
  • Does anyone know other bikes are not very expensive?

For your budget I would recommend going for the Raleigh RX Elite Moonbiker linked to.
The Voodo at halfords will be very frustrating in comparison with poor gearing and low end cable disc brakes. You would be better off with the canti brakes than those cable discs in my opinion.
I don't have disc brakes on my race bike and don't plan to get any soon because they are too expensive to get decent ones. When I have used cable discs they were more like an on/off switch that a progressive feel and I don't like locking my wheels all the time.
  • For light off roading CX brakes which historically have been, canti's which are frankly terrifingly awful. they are worse than old single pivots.

Cable disks occupy the budget end of the market and can be bit of fiddle.

Few years ago after quite a bad accident, I bought one of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op's CX bikes sadly Canti's the trick with cheap bikes is not to skimp on maintainence, I have a good bike shop near me, who are mainly a repairs/servicing type of place.

If you want better gears/brakes then i'd stick clear of bikes with Canti's
