New to MTB-Stupid question

Hi

Just been out for my first ride on my new bike (Boardman comp) and all is fine but there seems to be some rubbing between the rear pads and disc as if the pads are too close to the disc. I appreciate its new so the pads will wear down, but is there a way to adjust the pads? If it was rim brakes I would just slacken the tension a bit, but couldn't see anything obvious to adjust. They are Avid hydraulics if that helps. If it means playing around with fluids etc, I think I will just brake really hard the next few runs to wear the pads off a bit...

Whilst i am asking stupidness questions, are pedals supposed to spin really "freely"? Picked up some DMR V8s and the right one is smooth but not so spinny, the left was really grindy so I managed to loosen it to stop it grinding but now spins a lot?

Thanks, promise not to keep asking beginner questions soon...

There is a bolt on the top face, top and bottom which you loosen off and you can slide the calliper left of right as required.

If they are centred just ride and the pads will self adjust.

New pedals should be smooth but not spinny.

  • Thanks all, pads was an easy fix, thanks to a simple vid (as pointed out :D ) now sorted.

Pedal I think is a duff one, found an amazing guide and took the whole thing apart, and it's still either grindy or spinny. Spinny feels like it's going to do less damage so will leave it at that!!!
