First MTB

Ok not my first, had a Raleigh Maverick back in the day. I do a bit of road cycling but want an MTB for the winter, but which one? Ideally sub 1000 so I can then get pedals and shoes. I like the look of the Boardman 29er and the Sonder transmitter. Only going to be doing forest tracks, maybe some technical stuff but no balls to the wall downhill nonsense. Hat about a trek super fly, what about dropper seatpost said, what about 1x or 2x????
Any help appreciated.

    Not been funny or anything but threads like what about dropper post, 1x or 2x has been done to death, just take your time to have a look around this forum.

    Back to topic, I would say you looking at 2 completly different bikes 1 with more of a XC geometry and 29" wheels and the other with very slack head angle and 650b+ wheels.
