Apologies if this has been asked before. But
What's the difference, which are the better wheels.
I ask because the quattro's seem to be more expensive even though they are the heavier wheel. I appreciate they are deeper section.
I was trying to decide what ones to go for, I'm approx 98 kg so that may make a difference,
Many thanks for any advice. Scurry

Quattros are slightly aero profiled, but only slightly. That's where the extra weight is. Technically in the Fulcrum line-up they are a step above the Racing 5's although I'd pick the 5's over the Quattros. They are both good wheelsets at their price points and I doubt you'd notice much difference when riding each of them (I couldn't really tell).0

through various bike purchases i've ended up owning both. with the caveat that neither of mine are probably the latest version, i'd take the quattros over the racing fives
haven't noticed much, if any, difference between the two on the bike, but quattros look better :roll:0 -
Both are very fine wheels. The Quattro are probably all round faster despite that bit of weight over the 5. Probably.
I've found them bulletproof.

I was in the same situation
I chose the quattros as I prefer the slightly deeper rim profile
They also start to sound like deep aero wheels when you get moving on a piece of smooth tarmac.0 -
I had a similar quandry and ended up going for the Quattros too. Reason being I read somewhere that 5's may (only may) be a little bit less stiff than the Quattros.
And being north of 90kgs myself I wanted something that would hold up well when I'm out of the saddle, which they do admirably. I'd recommend them.0 -
I'm a bit of a tank and had 5's on my first road bike, I've now relegated that to my winter bike and have replaced the wheels with 5 LG's to run 25mm tyres.
At the price they seem like decent value for money and I'm not good enough to notice a difference.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
Thanks Guys all very interesting and very helpful replies.
Ironically I'm very much like some of you. I have picked up both Quattros and 5's wheelsets for excellent prices [i'm an addict to buying cycling gear!]. I'll will go for one and possibly sell the others on.
Great link bendertherobot, it sort of confirms what I thought,
Guess what they will replace ---- Fulcrum Racing 5.5 's
Thanks again to all, very helpful.
