Hi i have a new pair of theese but they are too tight for all my bottles?

Bottles fits but really have to shove/force in & the bottle doesn't go right down to bottom of holder & using them has ruined all the tranfer graphic on my bottles....

Maybe I can bend them larger somehow?

*I have several different brands of bottles including elite ones all are tight.

Weird as they get great reviews on Wiggle ? Yours are genuine ?
  • Funnily enough I've just binned a pair of these for exactly this reason. I did initially think it was muck abrading the bottles but a deep (steam) clean of the cage & brand new bottle looked like "heritage" trash after a short ride in the dry.

I've gone back to alloy cages.

Mine did my head in, binned them off for some specialized side entry ones. Couldn't get camelback bottles in very easily before, now they hook in fine.

Have never noticed that with SIS bottles.
Wife has them on one bike, uses NUUN and Clean Bottles too, and has never mentioned it.

Would recommend Bontrager RL XXX with Sis bottles if you want a superior bottle docking experience ;)
  • I have some bottles that don't fit these as well

I just not tend to use those bottles with those cages
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Dunno what bottles the OP is using but I found this with Camelbak Podiums, they're definitely larger than standard and seem to be a tight fit in some cages (I tried the Elites and Specialized Rib Cages).
  • I have Elite holders and SIS bottles, all good.

Never had a problem with Elite race holders and Camelbak 700ml bottles.

New bike I got a couple of months back I decided to try out an Elite Cannibal. Now I have a real problem getting the bottle out. Seems to have a vice like grip on the bottle and it either clangs against the frame due to the force used or you have to wiggle it to get the bottle out slowly,

Yep, got a couple of nice Camelbak Podiums as a freebie but they just don't work with Specialised Rib cages. I actually got wrist cramp after a few long rides and had to turbo for a couple of weeks until the pain settled down! Podiums went in the bin since the SIS alternatives work well.

I use spcialized Zee II ones, meant for mountain bikes but its a jeffing bottle cage end of the day, one right one left access LBS had them on offer have taken pretty much any bottle if put in without grief.

I prefer the podiums over the Elite bottles for the amount of fluid that comes out when you squeeze them, ive always been bad at drinking while riding so it helps me.

I've got these on both bikes. no problem with either. they scuff bottles slightly but they are usually just SIS 750ml ones.

BBB Speedcage + any bottle (mainly using SIS and Elite bottles)

No issues, hold the bottle really well, cheap to buy, look good, whats not to like!

I'm running Bontrager RL cages with CamelBak Podium bottles, nice and secure.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Having used both I'd have to say those Bontragers are undoubtedly a better design than the Elites

I use "old fashioned " metal cages. You can make them fit anything. You can make them tighter or looser. The sky is the limit. You can buy them by the dozen if need be. Cheaply too. And yet here you are with big buck carbon cages that don't work. One can only ask why? But I know the answer.
  • To be fair they're not "big buck carbon" - they're some sort of plastic (probably polypropylene or something) and cost about a fiver.

    Very true!

I use Podiums with these Elite bages and never had any issue at all - yes it might mark the bottles a bit, but better than having them bounce out imho, and a bit of rubbing of the bottles doesn't bother me at all, they are only to keep me hydrated.

I too bought cannibal cages and found them far too grippy - shame, as they are designed, I believe, for smaller frames, where you have less room to operate - well on the seat tube anyway.

Glad it's not just may. May just swap it out for a regular one or maybe swap over with the regular one I have on the seat tube as my backup

I just went back to the standard Elite custom cage, as I know how they work - the cannibals, being side entry should have made it easier to extract the bottle and replace it, but in reality, for me, it didn't work like that, and I was hitting the top tube just as much, and getting water became more difficult\dangerous as a result.

Shame, as it would have been handy for both my Synapse and my gf's Fuji, which both have a smallish seattube.

    FFS
  • i use elite custom race, with podium bottles.

they are tight to begin with, but i fill up a bottle of water and leave it in the cage. cage loosens off.
  • Mine is good, some have a ruberized finishing, can see it being too grabby.

Not just me then. Its a water bottle FFS.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
  • Camelback podium bottles slot into Lezyne flow cages like Lego. Anything else will feel slippy and sloppy afterwards.
  • I bought a cage from halfords for a pound. Best cage ever
