Temporary holiday SIM & iMessage Question

Hello,

A friend has an iPhone and a plan with EE that they use here in the UK.

They are going to the USA and have bought a Three PAYG SIM for the week they am there as it's MUCH+++ cheaper than anything EE can offer on Roaming. Therefore they will be using a new, temporary number for the week they are there.

They only have one handset, so the UK EE SIM will be removed and left at home before travel (or at least brought along for emergencies but not actually touched / used).

Is there a way that the new temporary number can be linked to their existing Apple account so that they will still receive iMessages sent to the permanent UK number but whilst using the new SIM in the USA?

I know standard texts and calls to the UK number won't come through, but I mentioned that I thought iMessages might work differently as the new number can be linked into the Apple account somehow?

Is there a way that they can set up temporary call forwarding also? Although that isn't essential as close friends will have the temporary number.

Cheers!

  • I have all my apple devices linked up with apple account so I can get iMessage on iPad, iPhone and macbook. So for example when I'm at work I can still receive iMessage texts through my macbook, so long as it has El Capitain or later installed.
