"When you're at a winter cake stop, take your outer jacket off so that you feel the benefit of putting it back on when you leave".
This is the pearl of wisdom from my mate when we're out and about in the cold and wet months.
Makes NO SENSE!
Do I need a new cycling buddy?

To be fair it is a good idea.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Cake is good, pub is better. Your mate should be saying "fancy another pint?"0

I think it depends on the type of cake0

It's a bleeding obvious thing. You don't need your coat on inside so let your body have a chance to breathe properly.
Presumably youre still typing with last winters gloves on ?0 -
I think his mate must also be called Garry.0

With you on that, though my own experience, when you mate says "lets have a couple of pints" dont. Tried riding after a couple of pints of Aspalls, horrible none of us could do any hills. Usually ill have a little brandy a coffee an cake. keeps the cold out0 -
Only ever had a drink on the bike at the club Xmas do. Always seems a struggle riding home after that but I am a lightweight...0

Last time I opened a physiology book, I recall it was those lungs things that did the breathing inside the chest, connected to a pipe that exits via the neck, alongside the beer in-pipe, and both were able to get themselves access to clear airspace via the neck hole of said coat.
All my body would do without a coat is drip drip drip on the furniture. And get cold. Winter gloves get tucked into my armpits at cake/beer stops to keep them warm.
In other news, Black Sheep makes you go faster. The more pints, the faster the average speed.0 -
Personally, when I stop on an evening/night ride at this time of year, I tend to put an extra layer on, as I'm just not generating heat when I'm off the bike. Keeps the muscles and core warm. Getting back on the bike when you're cold is mentally much harder.0
