Hey guys,

On the commute home tonight I hit a crack in the road at speed and heard a quite loud crack. I stopped to check and no visible signs of damage and took to a bike shop and 2 of them couldn't see anything either.

My wheels are dura ace c50 clinchers so aluminium and carbon and a carbon frame (2011).

Any ideas what this could be or where to check for damage?

  • Might just have been your handlebars or saddle moving

The handlebars/stem mount could have been the cause .. you might not notice if they have moved ever so slightly downwards... it can sound like a gun shot.

Yeah my first thought was the bars have moved round. They make that noise.

Your pockets must be deeper than mine; wouldn't be commuting in the dark on Dura Ace C50s.

My wallet winces when I crash into a water filled pothole on my R501s

Just a bit naive maybe. They seemed to be fine in warmer weather with potholes so I use them in the winter
