They'll be too wide.0 -
ok thanks shame as they seemed to be a bit of a steal. Any suggestions for a more offroad pair than the stock set ?0
-
There is a Schwalbe G1 size that does fit (there’s a narrower 650b tyre) and I think that’s been quite popular amongst Slate owners. I still have the stock tyres on mine at the moment0

40-584 I think ? there apear to be about 1000 different types!0

other quick question suggestions for a saddle post quick release0

I love my Slate
It's the Ultegra, but I've messed around with a bit the spidering arms and ring have been given to my SuperSix and the Slate has ended up with the SI from the Six (much to a mates disgust!). It runs Schwalbe G-One, but with tubes as I couldn't get tubeless to play nice. The biggest change is with the gearing, I have a Shimano XT M8000 11sp (11-40!) cassette at the back with a Shimano Ultegra RD-R8000 Shadow, and it transforms it when the going gets pointy. I will be tempted by some new wheels one day, but that might be a while off.
Other than a couple of stickers and orange tat here and there it's as is. It's a hoot to ride and can mix it up on and off-road.0 -

Having said that, it is all kinds of fun!0 -
Some nice looking Slate's ...becoming a popular bike, my long term thoughts on mine can be found here:

I've had my Slate since the 2017 stock was being sold off cheap. It's a good bike!
I want to demonstrate the ca. 20mm of bob-free suspension I've put on my rigid solo fork. I noticed some people complained about mudguards too. I made mine work.
The bike takes a beating, I don't baby it off road. The original wheels were awful. And badly built. And the alu nipples started breaking within the first year (probably salt corrosion). Replacing the rims and using butted spokes has shaved nearly a half kilo off the original weight, even with the higher spoke count.
The original tyres were great, tubeless. If you used them with tubes, it was asking for trouble. However, it's so muddy here that the knobblies have been a boon.
Everybody still enjoying theirs? Of course, they are available back in the UK again with a slightly more sensible set up now!0 -
The Slate is still going. Already 12.000 km (7.500 miles).

Superb looking machines, mine is all stripped and ready for painting by Kustomflow in Humberside.
Next rim, Project 321 hub and WTB Sendero tyre
New wheels in readiness, tyres will be Sendero front and Resolute rear, the Sendero promises lots of front end grip.“Faster, Faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.” Hunter S Thompson0 -
Where did you get those wheels Cheshire Cat? They look good.0

Still riding mine. Changing the wheels made a massive difference.
I'll be doing Paris Roubaix on it this spring!0 -

Awesome, ideal bike choice...I bet you won’t be the only one on a Slate
What wheels do you have?“Faster, Faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.” Hunter S Thompson0 -
I recently bought a slate which was the LBS owners bike.
Love it.

Funnily enough I'm in a group of 3, all of us on Slates! My wheels are custom built:
2x 28H 650B TL23 Kinlin rims
Orange Hope RS4 hub
Sapim CX Ray Spokes Black0 -
The Rover...great looking bike.
theboyfold...Slate’s seem pretty popular on the Continent, there were 2019 model bikes at last years Dirty Boar in Belgium, may see more here now they’ve been reintroduced to the UK for this year. The Dirty Boar is a ride I highly recommend, a route custom made for a bike as versatile as the Slate.“Faster, Faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.” Hunter S Thompson0 -

Looks interesting, beer and frites at the end! It mentions river crossings, I assume there are bridges on the rivers or do you go wading in?0 -
The crossing are all rideable, there are footbridges should you wish to use them...my ride report from the event: https://advntr.cc/dirty-boar-2018/
The black and white photo is of my son riding my Slate, which he used for the event.“Faster, Faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.” Hunter S Thompson0 -
After a worthwhile wait I finally got the Slate resprayed by KustomFlow in Humberside, Tom the guy who runs the business is a genuinely nice chap and will gladly help you come up with a colour scheme if you’re unsure exactly what you want. Wheels are by Next Cycling in the USA and specific to the Slate, hubs are Project 321. Front tyre is a WTB Sendero 47c, rear is a Resolute

Looks cool, very old school retro and quality. Sort of thing I'd have done as a lad before mortgages and kids came along!0

Mind me asking how much the paint job cost?0 -
That’s a lovely respray , reminds of a bowman palace . I’d love an apex 1 setup with the 700c wheels . Unfortunately I’ve seen very few slates for sale
Seems people are holding onto them0 -
