Press fit BB fix - how I stoped the creaking

I have a Look 795 from day one the BB creaked. The factory fitted the big, sorry huge bearings with a 65mm bore for the ZED3 cranks, with loctite. That did not work. Tried several readjustment of the preload collar and it still creaked. Removed bearings and re fitted with anti seize, grease e.t.c and that did not work, Tried new bearings with loctite and that did not work well it did for half a ride.

Removed the DS bearing and used tub glue to fix it and that made a big difference. I got a several quiet rides but a slight intermitant noise developed. Tightened the collar again that did not solve it as it was not loose to begin with. Today I removed the crank and knocked out the NDS bearing way to easily. I suspect the loctite on the NDS bearing was no longer fixing the bearing in place. So I have reassembled with tub glue to hold the NDS bearing and bliss silence. Given the difference tub glue has made when used on the DS I now suspect I have cured my creaky BB for good. Well I hope so.

Maybe this is fix for all press fit BB that creak. If the bond breaks it will reform straight way so the bearing will remain fixed.

I suppose time will tell for this fix. If it works I will be well chuffed.

As a Look stockist you're not exactly selling the idea to me....

This is more for Look owners who may have a similar issue if so there is a solution. Also it may apply to other Press fit BB's that creak and clonk without having to warranty the frame which is a pain.

What idea am I trying to sell, exactly. I am offering a potential solution to a press fit bearings that creak. If I had my way all bikes would use a square tape BB but I don't do I.

I meant the idea of a Look bike :)

I'm just happy that the Shimano BB-71 in my CR1 is silent. If ever it starts creaking I may pop in for a dab of tub glue...

Not all looks use these big press fit bearings. Many are just normal BB86 or BB30. Only the 795 and 695 use the 65mm bore pres fit bearings

Forgive my ignorance but what exactly is "tub glue"?

Dont worry, I also had to google "tub glue" before figuring out he means the glue used for tubular tyres (I assume - I am not certain!). Having never used tubulars I dont know what it is exactly though.
