Hi noobie question here. I have developed a click creaking sound when pedealing hard. Looking round the forums I've took off the pedals cleaned and greased and replaced them . I also seen to check the chain ring bolts my problem is I can't find them on my chainring I can only find what looks to be rivets and not bolts would this be right the bike is only 2 month old the chain ring is Shimano FC-TY 701 48x38x28 w/CG ?

According to the Shimano website you are correct, that crankset is a square taper 4 arm Tourney MTB model and is riveted together. Check the tightness of the crank to bottom bracket retaining bolts.

You've got other stuff to check too - seatpost, stem, stem/bars interface, quick releases...
I'm left handed, if that matters.
  • Done the crank bolts this morning , seat post stem and headset. I never thought of the quick release thanks I'll give that a go
  • Sorted. It was either the bottom crank or pedals. Took everything off at the front end and re tourque . Job done

And you greased them before tightening them right?

  • Sure did:)
