I am considering buying some carbon mid to deep section wheels (preferbly more then 38 mm) and would prefer clinchers; and overall a banging bargain. Any suggestions?

Have a browse through some of the other 'which wheel' threads on this forum, as the answer is probably already in there somewhere...
  • I saw these pop up the other day. Bit more ££ but some good data on the mid-depth rims, higher spec build too:

Seems like there's more options coming to market at least.
  • Yeah, I haven't waded into that one but slight weight aside (at 38mm) I can't see they offer anything more than the Bax at £230 less.

    Facebook? No. Just say no.
  • Deep section carbon wheels are by definition 'performance wheels' and therefore also need to wear tubs. Unless it is mainly the 'look' one is interested in. ;)

I have Fulcrum Quattro Carbons and have been very impressed with them so far (have them around 3 months now) Braking is excellent on the 3Diamant braking surface, even in the wet. They are 17mm wide and so accommodate 25mm tyres more readily than narrower 15mm rims. They're 40mm deep and while strong wind gusts will sway the steering slightly, its very easily managed. I have been out on very windy days and not had any problems and I'm reasonably lightweight. Mine weigh 1482g (on digital kitchen scales) with Shimano freehub which is very competitive when you consider Zipp 303s or Reynold Assaults are over 100g heavier excluding rim tape which both of them need (Quattros don't require rim tape)

I have yet to find anything to fault them on. A friend of mine who bought Zipp 303's at the same time is annoyed as hell with himself for spending over €700 more on his wheels and has already had some issue with his freehub (although it was sorted very quickly by the shop he bought them from) I highly recommend them.
  • Im also considering the same spec wheels, the Cero's look good for the money too..
