Campag Ergo lever as brake lever for 1x

Bit of a niche question this. I'm pondering going 1x on my cyclocross bike. One of the biggest weight savings is ditching the left hand shift lever for a simple brake lever. Can you run a Campag 11 speed ergo without the shift mech? Does the brake lever need the spring in the shift paddle to work properly?

If you search hard, you might get lucky and find one of the Campag Record Carbon brake levers they used to make up till about 2008 I think. It's basically identical to the 10 speed Ergo in looks and fitting, but minus the shift mechanism. Lovely things.. I had a set on a single speed for a while.
Pretty rare though.
Not sure about your other question though!Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -

Cane Creek makes similar levers (non carbon) for a lot less money.....0

Thanks for the replies. I like the shape of the modern campag ergos and have a set I'm not using. I might just use a complete one since they're pretty light anyway0
