'Nice' way to avoid Lewisham on a commute...?

...have picked up the commuting again, now from Dartford into Westminster - majority of it is fine but am starting to wonder if there's a better way of going that doesn't involve Lewisham and it's revised junction(s).

Current route is pretty much a straight line from Dartford via Bexley, Eltham, Lewisham, Peckham, Camberwell, Kennington, Vauxhall and into Westminster - it's that bit between Eltham and Peckham that's the busiest and feels the most dangerous of the route.

Anyone got any good route recommendations as to a way round it/avoiding it?

It's a longer route but come down to Ladywell>Adelaide Ave>Brockley>Shardloes Road (then you can either go up Vesta hill and down Jermingham if you fancy) or follow it up to join back at New Cross. No foot-down from Ladywell to New Cross is fairly easy too!

Also I don't do it often but Brockley to QRP on Drakefell isn't bad?

I'm a regular Lee High Road to City commuter, though I've also commuted to Kensal Rise for my sins (via Westminster) using both Vauxhall & Westminster bridges. I tried the Peckham/Camberwell route a few times but found it congested and tight spaces, so I went back to Old Kent Road, then through to Elephant/Westminster bridge. OKR/NKR is straight, wide and either empty or when busy, still passable without the pinch points that the Peckham route has. Elephant is better than it used to be, though not logical to start with & the route up to either Westminster or left via Imperial War Museum/Lambeth Bridge is again relatively clear. What you have to think of is that a lot of people go via Peckham/Camberwell to avoid congestion charge, so will be busier.
