Cervelo bottom bracket help

I bought a secondhand Cervelo S2 and assumed it had the BBright bottom bracket though BBright are 79mm wide. The width on mine is 68mm so I assume it's an older model S2.

I've bought a BBright FSA SL-K Light Carbon Crankset assuming I had a BBright BB (yep I'm a mong).

Does anyone know if it will fit and if so what would I need extra to make it fit?

My nearest bike shop is a 300 mile round trip (Live in Oman) so I really need to bring the right stuff to the LBS (or not so LBS) to make it fit on the day otherwise I'll be making a second trip.

Thanks.

You might want to ask on the cervelo forum they are really helpful

  • Well I've found the reason it only has a 68mm BB rather than the 79mm BBright one.

    It's a fake Chinese frame.

Hahaha, that fake is even better than a real Cervelo.....
  • It looks nice though lol.

Are you sure its fake? My 2012 or 13 S2 has a standard English thread BB. Paint job is white with silver and red.

  • Mine is also white/silver/red but I've only seen fake frames in these colours. Can't find a single S2 no matter what year in that colour scheme. The lettering on the downtube is also more spaced apart than on the real frames.

Having a 68mm BB is a definite plus point, fake or not.
  • Agreed, besides the fact I've just spent 200 quid on a chainset from the US that won't fit.

    Everyday is a school day!

Probably best to bin the frame rather than ride a fake of uncertain quality. But...you should probably be able to make it work, although it won't be ideal.

You need an 30mm external BB, like this one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/roto ... prod130466

(The BB should be British thread, since it's 68mm)

Then you need an additional spacer for the chainset. BBRight is 79mm, with the extra on the NDS. The NDS is identical to a 68mm BB *with* installed external bearing, so that should be fine, but you won't be able to use the standard DS spacer that comes with the crankset because some of that space will be taken up by the external bearing shell; I suppose that ought to be 11mm, coming to think of it, so you probably just need a wavy washer on the DS; you'll have an adjustable preload fitting on the NDS to fine tune.

[editing after reading and realising I was probably not thinking straight]
  • Thanks a lot for that. Just about to order that part now from CRC. Cheers for the link.

FWIW my 2012 S2 has a 68mm wide BSA BB. Supplied by a UK Cervelo dealer.
  • Yeah, I was under the impression all recent Cervelo's had BBright. Hence why I bought the BBright chainset. Hopefully the Rotor BB adapter will make the FSA-SLK chainset fit. We'll see.
