What will this mean to the price of online bike parts/consumables like chains, cassetes etc.
Is it worth stocking up on a few spares before the prices shoot up?

Why online? It will/should affect any imports. And, of course, much of what we use is imported. UK brands should hold steady but that depends what. A Genesis bike will suffer because there is nothing UK about it. A set of Hope brakes should remain steady. But, who knows. It's a fair bet that prices will rise.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Component prices have already gone up AFAIK. I don't suppose that they will do other than continue to do so............FFS! Harden up and grow a pair0

I think it is happening big time. Last May (2015) I paid £249 for a Dura Ace 9000 chainset. It remained there abouts til post Brexit, but now the same chainset is £399 on most sites, but £339 on Wiggle though sold out of late. It seems the same with most consumable parts as far as I can see. I went for Ultegra in the end, as DA just out of reach really.
Could be profiteering, could be the weak £ or could be Brexit, but either way, things are on the rise.0 -
Remember that current/2017 stock is already hedged so has been paid for/accounted for. The real rises come laterMy blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

True. Also, the stuff I ordered whilst the usual Shimano standard was factory OEM - brown box for the mech, chain in bubble wrap. Chainset in regular box though. Up til now always Shimano boxes. No bother here as it all works and is great but interesting never the less. Seems that prices were coming down, citing Giants TCR Pro 1 as a great bang for the buck bike at £2600 though I would imagine the 18 bikes more £ and perhaps all disk sadly.0 -

Yeah, from my perspective the RRP of the SuperX 105 is now £2499 plays £2299 last year. Not a huge increase but they've also done away with the R685. Ultegra version is £500 more. No one buys them now but the sale prices won't be as low as I paid for mine (£1500 for the 105)My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

True. Funny thing but I used to say back in 08/09 a £5K bike was a £5k bike. I remember seeing a Liquigas Supersix in Evans and it was lush. Dura Ace throughout. When the boom started bikes went up and the spec came down in relativity and I see that happening again. Suddenly a £5k bike was running a combo of ultegra, a touch of DA and so on.
I realise that it is price driven and the cost of the bikes can change when they leave or even hit the water in Tawain, but I reckon mechanical disk, 105 or Ultegra will be £2k - £3k soon enough. I hope not. If anything, I want to see disk brakes gone but that is another story...!0 -
Malcolm Borg (Cycleclinic) was on Radio 4 last Saturday afternoon, phoning in to discuss the very topic (at least I think it was him).0

i think prices will rise no doubt, dura-ace hubs have already gone up, cannondales pricing for 2017 bikes is slightly higher than last years, as is giant, and canyon knocked about 2 or 300 quid onto the prices of their bikes in sterling which more or less reflects the exchange rate now, this time last year it was about 2 or 300 quid cheaper to buy a canyon in euros than in sterling.0

Prices will have to rise, the £ does not buy you as many euros so consequently the price of importing goods increases and will continue to do so.
Longer term the import cost implications to importers (i.e. UK bike distributors) on things like duty tariffs is also unknown but likely to push costs up even further.
Speaking to my LBS they are already seeing 8-15% price increases on bikes/components for 2017 and this will likely only increase for future years.0 -
So bikes and bike components are likely to be more expensive in 2017 and even more expensive in 2027."You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0
-
More or less everythings going to get more expensive! Nothing's made here, the pound will just keep falling and this government will start charging import duty on anything ordered from outside your own postcode0

I just assumed, because the guy was called Malcolm and it sounded like him. Could be wrong.0 -
Everything will go up.0

You would hope (and I take little for granted) that once we have an agreed plan for leaving the EU, then the pound should bounce back a bit. I agree that things are likely to be more expensive though.
I guess the bigger worry is the threat to supply chains. I'm not sure how much this is likely to effect the cycling industry (maybe clothes and technical fabrics), but where products are the result of a number of processes in a number of countries, there are very serious problems posed by potential tariffs.0 -

road had ultegra cassettes on the dealcatcher the other day at 40 something quid of course the dealcatcher is basically a list of standard prices for cycling goods on wiggle, crc, ribble or such with the rrp as comparison. But i m pretty sure an ultegra 11s cassette was around the 30 quid mark 6 months ago on wiggle0

jeez, isn't there a 200+ page of exactly this dragging along the cake stop?0
