Son in law is after a mountain bike. He has seen the bmc sport elite at Evans and at £636 seems to be about right for his needs. Any other options he should consider? He is looking to use it for his 6 mile work commute and in the local park.

  • How much of a bike snob is your son-in-law?
If he is happy to buy from Go Outdoors or Halfords, you could pick up a Calibre Gauntlet or Boardman Comp (join British Cycling for a 10% discount on the Boardman).
The specs of these two bikes will be better than on the BMC.

This one? Spec isn't bad, but far from good.

Not much more but massively better

Cheers for the advice. Managed to pick up a second hand hoodoo for 300 that was pretty much unridden
