  • I just bought one of these having followed someone at a sportive the other week, you could see them for miles:

You can find it for around £35 at a number of places on the web
  • 3 COB rears from Aldi if they have any left?

Moon Comet is a nice little light. Looks really neat mounted using the saddle rail attachment. Can also be mounted to the seatpost if you use a saddle bag.

Buy the cheaper copy of the moon comet from planet X, (Jobsworth canopy I think they are called). I bought 2 for £10 in a sale, I think they are £10 each but certainly cheaper than the Moon Comet and just as effective (I've owned both).
  • And, on that, the Aldi cheaper £10 two pack is the Moon Comet. (though not necessarily as powerful)

Use these myself. Good lights. Plenty of battery and small enough to be left on all of the time

Ive got the AAA battery version which is brilliantly powerful but I found it lets water in when riding in the wet. I solved this by putting a wrap of electrical tape around where the two halves join. Problem solved, but it would be better if manufacturers made them with a better seal in the first place. Does the USB version suffer from water ingress?

I also have one of these http://www.cateye.com/intl/products/detail/TL-LD630-R/ on my TT bike with the very neat saddle rail mount. Again, brilliant visibility with an eye catching flashing mode, but once again it needs a tight wrap of electrical tape around the join to seal from the elements. Not bad for £13 though.

I've had people moan that they could see my Smart R2 for ages - but never seem to get closer to me - on my TT bike :)
I run that and a Knog blinder - the disadvantage of the blinder is that it is ... er ... blinding - so not really social when riding in a group ...

Anyone remember the Cateye Holy Hand Grenade rear lights ? Everyone used to have them - visibiilty at the side too.

They'd look like a candle compared to modern lights now.
  • You can pick up the Exposure TraceR rear light form the Evans Website in their ex-Demo section for about £30. These are just display items without the original boxes. I got the front and rear set for sub £50
  • Thanks I've just got the Smart R2 from Amazon

    Moon Shield.

Bloomin bright, cheap at £24. Top quality. I have the Moon Meteor at the front. Two quality lights at ridiculously good prices given how powerful and lightweight they are.

Moon Nebula is a step up on most of the lights mentioned so far, in my opinion.

Have you considered sending it back to Exposure and asking them if they can repair it? I'm sure I'v heard good things about their customer service.

  • I just took a punt on the last stock of the Aldi rear light, the aluminim body USB one (£12.99 I think) and my God, it's amazing, I nearly burnt out my retinas with the bloody thing! I wanted a super bright one for the TT bike on light evenings and this seems to fit the bill and then some!

It also comes with three separate brackets, all of decent quality plastic by the look of it. If there's any stock left, grab one!

Mines charging... I shouldnt be this excited about a light!

Love the helmet bracket too (which I guess will also double up nicely on an aero seat post if using an alternate band thats a bit longer than those supplied).
