Looking to get some light climbing wheels for my Altum disc. Looked at Hunt but worry they are just (nice) branded Chinese rims? Enve great but the 3.4s are a few years old now?

Am I missing something? Got to be a good light wheel that will take me up mountains and weigh 1.2kg ish?

Need some light rotors too if anyone has 140mm recommendations?

Thanks, Francis

There is only one rotor in that size that you want to use down the mountains: Shimano Freeza RT 99, the others, light or heavy, don't come close.

Light rotors are heavily drilled, hence they brake less... if you prefer to save 30 grams for a pair of rotors that don't brake, then I think you have your priorities wrong

    Duly noted, thanks
  • Have a read of this:-

And use the Ashima Ai2 disc rotor (and change the 12x mount bolts to titanium) if you want to keep weight as low as possible - much lighter than shimano yet not crazy expensive. They are 160mm, and they brake fine compared to the previous shimano rotors at 160mm also - possibly slightly less so but more than enough stopping power and better than a 140mm option.
  • Depending on your fitness, if you drop two pounds in weight, you save 3-5 watts... it really is not a lot, so certainly not worth looking for gram savings on rotors an bolts.

  • Replied on you Weight Weenie post but value to £

Love the Aero Lights I bought. Light at 1485g, run very smooth and nice wide rims for larger tyres. Tubeless to and are easy to mount the tyre to. They aren't just off the shelf chinese wheelsets. Read up on the website or better call or email the guys.

Agree with Ugo. I had KCNC razor discs and yes they're light (62g 140mm) but compared to Shimano or Avids braking performance is very poor.
  • I've had 2 pairs of wheels from these guys and I can't recommend them highly enough:

    £395 and weight 1540g.

    Customer service is also fab!

I, too, like RT99 Freezas, but still went with 16cm up front. It would be interesting to see how the new Dura Ace rotor compares - but it seems as the same technology as RT99 from 2013

judging by his thread on weight weenies lightweight disc brake wheels are too heavy. I replied on there with idea about very light disc brake wheels. They can be done down to about 1020g but tubular. I am not saying that is sensible but there is no point in trying to save 100g of wheels as ugo points put the weight changes have to big to save even a small amount of power. You have just because they are light at which point they might as well be really light.
