Hi it's the noob again I was just wondering when upgrading my rear shox how do I know what length and size to buy, sorry if this is simple lol. Also I got a Merida One-Sixty with a rock shox monarch r plus any advice on what to buy as was looking at the monarch RC3.

measure the one you are replacing, eye to eye and shaft length should give you an idea“I am a humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without expectations of rewards or punishments after I am dead.”

the monarch R plus isn't actually a bad shock, - I wouldn't bother with the RC3 model, it only adds the 3 position switch not any difference in the open setting.
to know the size you need you need to measure the eye to eye of the shock (bolts to bolts) and the stroke. with it being 160mm its likly to be either 216x63mm or 200x57mm
looking at the leverage curve I'd get a coil shock like the new DB coil IL from tftuned although it depends on your budget.

I've had a Monarch RC3 and always ran it with the compression in the trail position so it was basically the same as the Monarch R anyway.
Monarchs aren't great shocks, I've currently got a Monarch Plus RC3 and don't think much of that.
Go for something like a Fox Float X or Cane Creek DB air if you're concerned about weight or if you don't mind an extra half pound then go for a Cane Creek Coil CS if your bike needs a pedal platform or if it doesn't then go for a DB coil or a Fox Van R from TF Tuned with the PUSH MX tune.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Wow thx for your input guys you's know your stuff, I was looking at Cane Creek DB air earlier and I got the option of universal or specialised enduro fit, is this something else I should worry about?0

If you have a Specialized Enduro, then get the specific fit for that. For any other bike, get the universal fit.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

the MX tune van RC would be a good option or if you want a climb switch/lever then the CCDB coil CS/IL CS (if you want a low weight option) or the float DHX2. phone TFtuned and see what they say. I went for the IL over the MX tune van RC for the climb switch.0

Thx POAH after what you said I think I'm gonna go for the Cane Creek DBAir CS Rear Shock or the Cane Creek DBInline Rear Shock . just gotta do my homework on the two.0

The Inline is designed for bikes with up to 150mm rear suspension. The DB air CS is for 150mm or more.
You also need to be sure whether your frame has the space for the DB air CS piggy back remote reservoir.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

This, although you have the piggyback on the monarch plus, the one on the DB air is much bigger. I can't fit a DB air on my bike but the monarch is fine.0 -
Well I'm pretty sure my monarch r plus is 216x63 with 30mm gap between the piggy back bit and frame so as long as the piggy back fits DB air CS would be fine0

go for a coil you know it make sense lol DHX20

OK I'll try coil what's the worst that can happen0
