I am currently running a 3x10, but my chainrings REALLY need replacing. I really want to try 2 x 10. I already bought 24, 38 T (seems to have a good range of gear ratios) and bought a BBG 38T bashgaurd. WHAT YOU THINK....thanks

My bikes YETI 575 (2012) full suspension, XT everything

Should work fine, as the chainline won't be optimal you should try and use the larger ('middle') ring a bit more than the small ring.
You'll probably have to reposition the front mech to get it shifting properly (you should do it anyway) (better still get a double specific) and will want to shorten your chain to suite.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
