I've been mountain biking for years and before that use bmx's but not I want to get in to road biking.

However I need a bike for commuting and for going out with the kids across playing fields, down old train tracks and through forests. So instead of a road bike I'm thinking of getting an adventure bike or cyclocross.

Im restricted to Evans as part of my works bike to work scheme with a £1k budget so I'm looking at these 2 bikes:

Cannondale CAADX 105 Disc 2016 Cyclocross Bike
or
Pinnacle Arkose 3 2016 Adventure Road Bike

I'm learning towards the pinnacle.

Any advice for a novice please?

Thanks
Adam

I have just bought the CAADX, but with Ultegra. It is the nuts.

    I have the 2015 CAADX 105.

I might be tempted to go for the Pinnacle, simply due to the absence of BB30 which has been a pain in the Kyhber and not cheap in the 18 months I've had the bike.

Other than the BB though, nice bike.
  • It would be the CAADX all day for cyclocross, but for what you're talking about maybe the pinnacle is more versatile. The brakes on the CAADX are pretty ordinary IME, so if the pinnacle came with a better set that would be a significant difference for commuting. The wheels on the CAADX are tank-like but I doubt you'll get a decent set of wheels on any CX bike at this price-point.
