Colour of Rapha items, versus their site pictures + grazing animal observations

Had a couple of items where what has been delivered doesn't appear to be that close to the picture online, and none more so now that with the Lombardia jersey:

LOM01-Product-AW15-A-New_SMALL
29469158544_f9e470cc8f_b.jpg

To me that looks to be a dark green (Above the stripe), almost BRG, and a pretty vivid yellow stripe, which is exactly what I was after, and perhaps brown or black below the stripe.

Later, I will post a picture of the item as I have had it delivered, and would be interested to see what people think.

I am aware that monitors may show things differently, or photographic studios may mean items show up differently with regards to lighting etc, but I haven't really had this issue with any other brands.

I guess they aren't really too concerned about matching that photo to the real thing as most people who buy it must be colour blind.  Bleuch!!

  • I bought one, then sent it back because I didn't like it in the flesh. Seemed 'duller' than appears in the pics. Thats internet shopping though, nothing to do with Rapha. Monitors and different photographic lighting seem to change certain colours more than most

Yes that is my thought too, on the dullness.

I've had it with a few Rapha items though, maybe it is the photographic studio they use.

    It does!

And it gets rave reviews, averaging 4.6 out of 5 (From 89 reviews) on the Rapha site.
Clearly more of a casual jersey.

There are currently two for sale on Ebay, one already over £100 (With 20 bids), and the other one surely going there later!

Just posted the pic underneath the library pic, it actually looks brighter in my camera pic than it does with the naked eye imho, but still to my eye, looks vastly different.

Delighted I bought from Rapha (And can send it back for free) and not one of the ebay sales that finished tonight, one Small and one Medium, both brand new, but sold for a smidge over £250 the pair!

Yep was deffo last years jersey - guess someone has visited and picked them up for £100 or so, and made a modest profit after fees.

The key to making a profit - think of a fancy label, treble the price you thought of selling it at, use some clever studio lighting and watch the pounds roll in.

On the subject of sheep mentioned in that article, they are not unpredictable - the author is obviously an apprentice sent up from the city.
As you approach sheep on the road, make a noise and daughter will always try to link up with Mum - she will often be on one side of the road and Mum will be the other. Mum will bleat and not move whilst daughter will cross the road. It;s most likely to be daughter as the male lambs will have been separated for lunch or the lucky one's; life long shagging duties.
Lamb's will always try and find Mum apart from "first Hog ewe's" (first time Mums). They get a little agitated at the perceived threat approaching. You can tell them because unlike the older Ewe's, they will try and find their lamb(s) and once they do, they will go off at a tangent to the road.

Maybe BTR is on the money, weird batches. Perhaps the ebay ones are different to mine.

In all my life I can only remember one unpredictable sheep. It jumped off a verge above my mate's dad's car as we drove down a mountain road, skidded across the bonnet, bounced off the road and continued as if nothing had happened. The rest are utterly predictable. Dogs on paths mind, chaos theory.

Take lambs out of the equation and I have met quite a few sheep confused as to what to with an oncoming car/bicycle when they have escaped their field and are effectively fenced into the road.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Sorry, Blakey but I think it's the pheromones you emit.

    Even more off topic:

Couple of years ago, I was hurtling down a hill near a reservoir near here and in front of me were quite a few cows. The cows parted at the sound of my voice and I called myself Moses for a split second but there in front of me was a Hereford bull - and he wasn't moving and I was going too quick. His eyes were as wide as saucers and it was immediately apparent that he was petrified, frozen on the spot; the opposite to what had initially gone through my mind.
To this I thought 'ok, i'll cycle pass him on his right', (my left) on this narrow single track road but just at the last moment, he turned to flee, so being a long vehicle so to speak, his back end was the last thing I saw as I slammed the brakes on and closed my eyes. I fully expected colliding with fur and bone but someone was looking out for me that day as I opened my eyes a split second later and I was still on the bike and still pointing in the right direction.
He was a very handsome chap with big blue eyes I must say and i'll never forget staring into them for that fleeting moment.

    Moove surely.

As thread tangents go, this is right up there I would say :D

  • This may have a different tangent now as a quick google seems to suggest a disagreement over whether sheep are cattle.

No Sheep are sheep, and cattle is the correct name for the thing that we generally call a cow or a bull(these merely refer to their gender). And of course as a lawyer you will be aware of chattel which is where the word cattle comes from.

I am glad this meets your approval. Now that you have combined the thread, I thought that this shot was very apt. Personally, I think the white is as good as you'll get.

Oh, I was fairly confident in the usage but, you know, the internet. I decided not to risk it.
